pickering

The charming market town of Pickering is the gateway to the North Yorkshire Moors and home to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.  Its historic market is still held every Monday throughout the year.

In town, visit Pickering Castle, Ryedale Museum, and see the fabulous 15th century wall paintings inside the Pickering Church, where campanology practice takes place on Wednesday evenings.

There's a wide selection of eateries to choose from in town, from fine dining and gourmet shops to an award-wining fish & chippy and family-friendly pub fare.

Pickering plays host to many entertaining events and festivals throughout the year.   Especially popular are the "60's weekend" in May and the "War Weekend" in October.  The NYMR runs special railway events in all seasons and there are numerous country shows and fairs held throughout the year.
